格安SIMや他社に、最も手数料が安くMNPで乗り換えられるのは、2年単位の縛りが解ける「更新月」である。
ドコモ、au、ソフトバンクの3社とも、契約した翌月を1ヶ月目とするため25ヶ月後が更新月となる。2013年2月に契約した場合は、2015年3月が更新月である。この月は契約解除料(3社とも9500円)がかからないため、MNPの手数料だけで済む。
